This week’s ChangeMaker is Manuela Silva, the CEO of the Community Housing Opportunities Corporation. Manuela is a well-known force in the affordable housing industry. Prior to joining CHOC, she was responsible for developing the Fruitvale-BART Transit Village that transformed the Oakland area into a vibrant, livable community for the surrounding residents.
About Manuela Silva:
Ms. Silva is responsible for the overall direction of CHOC, and its affiliates. She joined CHOC as CEO in October 2006. Ms. Silva has an extensive background in non-profit governance and management, as well as real estate development. For over 30-years, Ms. Silva has provided a wide range of services to both non-profit and private sector clients in the areas of Real Estate Development, Economic Development, Organizational Management, Resource Development, and solving challenges that cross boundaries between professional disciplines and government agencies. Ms. Silva served as Sr. Executive Officer of the Fruitvale Development Corporation, where she directed and oversaw a diverse portfolio of mixed-use, mixed-income, urban in-fill real estate development activities, including development of the nationally acclaimed Fruitvale-BART Transit Village. Ms. Silva is a graduate of University of San Francisco, McLaren School of Business and Professional Studies.
