Over the past 20 years, schools have embraced technology in the classroom and the use of tablets has become a part of their curriculum. But Joe’s guest this week recognized a gap in the marketplace and set out to develop high-quality headsets that not only provide a top-notch audio experience but are designed to withstand the rigors of daily use by students. His name is Mike Guerena and on the podcast, he shares his journey from educator to entrepreneur and why he was inspired to build ThinkWrite Technologies.
About Mike Guerena:
From his earliest days as an educator, Mike Guerena identified computer technology as a key element to successful learning in an evolving educational landscape. While working as a classroom teacher in the late 1990s, Mike was the lead instructor and designer for a professional development program that provided the foundation for hundreds of teachers to embrace and integrate improving technology into their learning protocol throughout San Diego County.
Over the following years, Mike held leadership positions in a variety of organizations and built programs that have left a lasting impact, setting high standards for innovation, inclusion, and development. His vision to emphasize the usage of one-to-one learning programs that provide every student access to both a personal computing device and cutting edge digital curriculum was one of the first full-district implementations in the country. The Orange County Animation Project – an innovative school animation program created by Mike – inspired and empowered middle and high school students on an animation-adjacent career path by connecting them directly to professional animators for real time feedback on their work. He also produced interactive events supported by live video conferencing technologies that connected students to authors, historians, and other unique resources when the technology was still in the early stages of its use in education.
In 2014, Mike leveraged his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for helping others, stepping into the role as architect, founder, and CEO of one of the leading headphone companies in the education market: ThinkWrite Technologies. In addition to leading ThinkWrite Technologies, Mike enjoys collaborating with his design team to improve upon and create new products that enhance and enable learning with technology – both in and out of the classroom – for millions of students. Ultimately, Mike’s vision is to ensure all headphone and headset users have access to the benefits of ThinkWrite Technologies’ brand pillars: audio accessories designed and built to offer the high quality sound, durable construction, and ergonomic superiority needed for long hours of comfortable listening at an affordable price.
